Welcome, to a safe, compassionate and respectful environment where we will work collaboratively at a pace that is comfortable for you.

Bonnie Filipchuk, MSW, RSW

Professional Profile

I graduated with a Master of Social Work from Wilfrid Laurier University in 1990. I have more than 25 years experience working in family counselling agencies in Brant, Halton and Niagara. I have provided clinical supervision to numerous other therapists, and have also served as both the manager and director of an accredited Niagara-based multi-service counselling agency that provides short and long-term, as well as Employee Assistance Plan (EAP) related counselling services.

Keeping up to date is important to me. I make sure that my training and clinical practices are current and the best approach is taken for each client. I attend numerous workshops, and training events to achieve this.

I integrate a number of treatment approaches into my work depending on the needs, preferences, learning styles and identified concerns of each client. Some of the treatment approaches I utilize include cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), narrative therapy, emotionally focused therapy (EFT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), solution focused therapy and trauma-informed therapies. Other influences include family systems theory, as well as person-centred, strengths-based, and resilience-based approaches.

In all cases, I provide a safe, compassionate and respectful environment where we will work collaboratively at a pace that feels comfortable to you.

On a personal note, I love travelling, seeing films, gardening, cooking, yoga, pilates and reading. I also enjoy hosting dinner parties, or better yet, eating out in one of Niagara’s great restaurants. Some of my favourite things to do are strolling through the farmer’s market, attending the Toronto International Film Festival, and making time for “Fika” (a moment to slow down and enjoy the good things in life like coffee and a pastry with friends). Above all, I love spending time with my husband and whenever possible, our adult son, extended family and dear friends.
